About 173,000 Illinoisans who use Blue Cross Blue Shield health care plans could be affected by a health care plan change in 2016. The Broad Preferred Provider Organization plan was, as the name says, broad. Spokesman Michael Deering says it was too broad.
So there won’t be a Blue Cross Blue Shield Broad PPO for individual purchasers in 2016. It will still be available for group plans and small businesses. Individual buyers who have it now are being referred to the Blue Choice Preferred PPO.
Deering says don’t assume the Blue Choice Preferred PPO is right for you. It could include your hospital but not all the doctors there. Or it could include your doctor but not the hospital you like.
The state of Illinois is letting people affected by the Blue Choice Blue Shield Broad PPO’s demise until the end of February to choose a new plan.
