Meridian – Zelda Geyer-Sylvia, president and CEO of Blue Cross of Idaho, has announced her plans to retire in the spring of 2016.
Geyer-Sylvia has worked with the not-for-profit mutual insurance company since December 2006, when she joined as the executive vice president and chief operating officer. She was named president and CEO in 2012, and Jo Anne Stringfield, chair of the Blue Cross of Idaho Board of Directors, said she was a good leader during a tumultuous time at the company.
“(Geyer-Sylvia) has guided Blue Cross of Idaho with strong leadership and keen insight during a time of unprecedented change in the health insurance industry,” Stringfield said in a press release, referring to the introduction and implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
As Geyer-Sylvia guided the company through these changes, she emphasized commitment to the company’s members. This emphasis resulted in substantial growth in its group, individual and dental lines of business.
The Blue Cross of Idaho Board of Directors will begin searching for a new CEO and president. The company has more than 900 employees at its Meridian headquarters and employs additional staff at its district offices throughout Idaho, serving more than 840,000 members.
Blue Cross of Idaho is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
