Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesotawill join health care innovation center TreeHouse Health as an anchor tenant.
The Eagan-based insurer will have a presence at the 13,000-square-foot Minneapolis facility as part of the deal, TreeHouse said. The announcement comes about five months after Minneapolis-based health provider Hennepin County Medical Center signed on as an anchor tenant.
“We’re excited to provide TreeHouse Health with access to our knowledge and strategic insight, based on Blue Cross’ 80-plus years of innovation and experience,” Blue Cross Chief Strategy Officer Rochelle Myers said in a prepared statement. “Fostering new ideas and supporting new voices is an important part of creating a more consumer-centered health care market that is easier to access, understand and navigate for everyone.”
TreeHouse opened in 2013 to give health care startups, providers, insurers and other industry players space to collaborate. The for-profit organization also invests in startups. It’s still seeking two more anchor tenants.
Startups based at TreeHouse include LogicStream, which makes an application health systems use to set standards for care and track how well those standards are followed, and Vital Sims, a developer of video games that are used to train health care workers.
Angel investor and former UnitedHealth Group Inc. executive Dr. John Blank and his son, Jeffrey, founded TreeHouse.
