LOUISVILLE — Humana Inc.’s network crashed early Monday, forcing the Louisville-based health care giant to jump to social media to communicate with employees and customers nationwide.
The systemwide outage affected operations at the Louisville headquarters as well as locations in several states. It shut down email and phone systems as well as the company’s website, which displayed a photo of ginko leaves and the message: “Sorry for the disruption. We are working to restore service. Thank you for your patience.”
Humana spokeswoman Kate Marx said there is no indication that the company computer network was hacked, but as late as 5 p.m., engineers were still trying to find the source of the problem.
The company issued a statement to its employees and media saying that it was “experiencing large-scale network issues which are also impacting some phones and remote email. The issues are aggressively being worked, however there is no current estimate for system restoration. Periodic updates will be provided.”
Marx said the company is using its corporate Facebook page and Twitter to communicate with clients and employees.
