Anthem Inc. signed a deal to buy Simply Healthcare Holdings Inc.
Simply Healthcare, a managed care company in Coral Gables, is a portfolio company of MBF Healthcare Partners, a one-time suitor of failed Universal Health Care Group Inc. in St. Petersburg.
Anthem did not say how much it would pay for Simply Healthcare in a press statement announcing the deal.
Simply Healthcare manages care for people enrolled in Medicaid and Medicare programs in Florida. The planned acquisition helps Anthem grow its government business division, and advances the company’s capabilities in Florida, a key market for growth, Joseph Swedish, president and CEO of Anthem, said in the statement.
Anthem (NYSE: ANTM), headquartered in Indianapolis, is one of the nation’s largest health benefits companies.
MBF Healthcare Partners made a short-lived bid to buy Universal Health Care in January 2013. Shortly after MBF and Universal called off the deal, Universal filed for bankruptcy, as Florida regulators put two of its subsidiaries in receivership.
