MIDLAND, GA (WTVM) – US legislators, local officials, and health representatives broke ground on a new facility in Midland on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
The new 235,000 sq. ft. Blue Cross Blue Shield building will be the office for more than 1,000 employees, and serve three million members.
Once finished there will be two wings, an atrium, outdoor patio, and even a fitness center .
We spoke with Congressman Sandford Bishop on the effect this will have on our community.
“The more jobs, and the more services we can provide, the more attractive it is for this community, and the better the quality of life,” says Bishop. “And of course healthcare is an industry that insures a better quality of life for the people, and of course to have a provider of healthcare.”
They tell us the building should be complete by in early fall of 2015.
The group also put a time capsule in the ground to commemorate the site with different items including a Blackberry phone, an employee headset, and a book on the company’s history.
