Humana Inc. has launched a service that aims to educate consumers on changes brought on by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
The service, called Humana Helps, allows anyone — not just Humana members — to get answers on reform through the company’s call centers. Humana call centers, reachable at (800) 222-1679, will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until Monday to answer questions.
A new website, humanahelps.com, also has been launched.
Americans have until Monday to enroll in a health plan through state and federal exchanges for coverage to take effect on Jan. 1. In Kentucky, the exchange is called Kynect. Louisville-based health benefits firm Humana (NYSE: HUM) is one of five insurers providing coverage through that platform.
HumanaHelps.com includes an online pricing tool that calculates relevant rates in a person’s area — whether from Humana or another health care company, a news release said. Individuals can also explore available government subsidies there to see if they qualify.
“Humana wants to do what we can to help people understand their health care options,” Jody Bilney, Humana’s chief consumer officer, said in the release. “With Humana Helps, we’re giving people the tools and information they need to make informed decisions about the future of their health care. Humana is devoted to clearing up any confusion consumers may have via our new website (www.humanahelps.com), our 24/7 call center and in-person seminars.”
