Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut said Jill R. Hummel, vice president of payment innovations, will replace outgoing President David R. Fusco at the end of the month.
Hummel will manage Anthem’s group and individual health insurance businesses in the state, and be responsible for guiding the company through changes contained in the Affordable Care Act, the company said.
In her current role, Hummel has increased the amount of patient and performance data doctors share with Anthem, which the insurer said has led to a focus on value over volume.
She previously worked for United Healthcare after a 17-year career as an attorney.
And since July, she has been on the board of directors for the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative Initiative, a national entity focused on new approaches to health care.
“Her extensive experience in payment innovation techniques, profit-and-loss management, strategic planning, and operations management, in addition to her market knowledge, will be an asset to our Connecticut team,” Doug Wenners, senior vice president of provider engagement and contracting for Anthem parent Wellpoint, said in a statement.
