We will share our knowledge and expertise globally while caring for people locally and always do it with a human touch,” Farrugia added.
With Google’s assistance, Mayo Clinic will advance virtual care with AI-enabled digital diagnostics. Mayo will also leverage Google technology to enhance its medical research capacity. It will be able to develop and deploy new machine learning models designed to boost treatment precision and clinical outcomes.
“With one of the most robust sources of clinical insights in the world, Mayo Clinic is well-positioned to lead digital transformation in health care,” said Christopher Ross, chief information officer at Mayo Clinic. “Our partnership will propel a multitude of AI projects currently spearheaded by our scientists and physicians and will provide technology tools to unlock the value of data and deliver answers at a scale much greater than today.”
MAYO CLINIC TO CONTROL ACCESS AND USE OF PATIENT DATA
Google Cloud will secure and store information from Mayo Clinic while working with the clinic to employ cloud computing and AI technologies to address complicated healthcare issues. Mayo Clinic will continue to monitor and control access and use of its patient information.
In conjunction with partners, including Google, Mayo Clinic will authorize the use of patient information in projects to generate fresh perspectives and solutions in healthcare. Mayo Clinic will use strict long-standing institutional controls to manage access to all data.
“Health care is one of the most important fields that technology will help transform over the next decade, and it’s a major area of investment for Google,” observed Google CEO Sundar Pichai. “By pairing the Mayo Clinic’s world-class clinical expertise with our capabilities in AI and cloud computing, we have an extraordinary opportunity to develop services that will significantly improve lives.”
Google will also open a new office in Rochester, MN, under the Mayo Clinic partnership. Google’s engineers will work side by side with Mayo Clinic researchers, physicians, IT employees, and data scientists to apply sophisticated computing methods to healthcare problems.
“As health care embraces digital innovation, management and analysis of complex data will become increasingly important,” said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian. “We are thrilled that Mayo Clinic has selected Google Cloud as the bedrock of its digital transformation. We look forward to helping the renowned medical center transform health care to serve patients around the world,” Kurian observed.
