Centene Corporation, which owns 50% of the Ribera Salud Group in Spain, today announced it has purchased Sanitas’ and Asisa’s stake of the Torrejón Salud company, concessionaire of the University Hospital of Torrejón de Ardoz in the Community of Madrid.
With this transaction, Centene will own 89% of the University Hospital of Torrejón, and Ribera Salud will take over management of the center. Ribera Salud ran the center from its opening in 2011 until November 2012. The University Hospital of Torrejón currently serves approximately 150,000 people and has a broad portfolio of services and facilities.
“We are pleased to be expanding this growing and successful enterprise in Spain,” said Michael F. Neidorff, Chairman and CEO for Centene. “The purchase of the University Hospital of Torrejón is an important addition to our international portfolio.”
“The Ribera Salud model has successfully offered Spanish citizens quality healthcare with increased satisfaction, lower wait times and lower cost per capita,” said Alberto de Rosa, CEO for Ribera Salud. “The addition of the University Hospital of Torrejón will help us further promote a successful health model that focuses on the whole health of the people.”
