In a bid to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in healthcare, 15 startups have joined forces to create a new AI platform for research and collaboration.
Called the Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, the platform looks to improve transparency and promote collaboration between leading members of the AI community.
The founding members of the group met last week during Boston Biotech Week and will be reconvening today during the Basel Life Conference to finalise plans for the activities for the first 12 months of its operations.
The platform will then officially launch in January 2019 during the week of the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco, it announced in a release.

The idea of the AAIH is to help push research collaborations, improve data sharing, and promote key research results to accelerate biomedical research.
“We are on the cusp of major breakthroughs in the application of machine learning, computational science, and artificial intelligence, which carry the potential to dramatically improve the quality and affordability of healthcare globally,” said Brandon Allgood, CTO and Founder of AI healthcare startup Numerate.
“We look forward to participating in AAIH as a mechanism to foster continued growth.”
The AAIH also plans to be key to driving public policy, appropriate regulation, and market access for the products developed by the AI in healthcare industry.
“If we are to build upon our recent industry success and realise the true potential of AI, it is crucial that the sector organise immediately to enact policies and practices that will enable efficient adoption, integration, and commercialisation,” added Alex Zhavoronkov, CEO of another AI healthcare startup also part of the group, Insilico Medicine.
The membership of AAIH includes focusing on infrastructure and applications in healthcare areas of Biomedical discovery, Clinical Research, Diagnostics and Devices, and Precision Medicine.
The list of AAIH Founding Members include: Benevolent AI, BlackThorn Therapeutics, The Buck Institute for Research on Aging, Cyclica, Envisagenics, GE Healthcare, Insilico Medicine, NuMedii, Numerate, OWKIN, Recursion, and finally, University of Pittsburgh.
