MedPlast closes deal, rebrands as Viant

July 15, 2018

MedPlast Inc. has given itself a new name after completing the acquisition of Integer Holding Corp.’s advanced surgical and orthopedics business.

The new name, Viant, reflects the company’s new strategic direction.

“Today marks an exciting day for our company. The addition of Integer’s business expands our capabilities and offerings, and enables us to achieve our goal of being a full-service supplier to our customers,” CEO Brian King said in a news release. “Our new name, Viant, represents our dedication to our customers and to the patients that our customers serve; and is indicative to our commitment that ‘we’re in it for life.'”

Viant also announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters from Tempe, Ariz., to Foxborough, Mass., which puts the contract manufacturer of single-use medical components and devices in a major medical device hub near customers.

With the acquisition, the company says it now has a vertically integrated supply chain for its customers. The business serves the interventional, diagnostic, pharma and animal health markets in addition to surgical and orthopedics.

The former MedPlast has made three acquisitions in the medical technology space in the last 15 months. It says the latest deal is expected to double sales to nearly $1 billion while expanding metals capabilities and the global footprint into Europe.

The number of employees has doubled, too, to nearly 6,000 at 25 sites in the United States, Central America, Europe and Asia since 2016, when the business was acquired by the New York-based investment firm Water Street Healthcare Partners and the Chicago-based private equity firm JLL Partners.

With estimated injection molding sales in North America of $310 million, the former MedPlast ranks 28th among injection molders in the region, according to Plastics News’ latest ranking.
