Laboratory Corporation of American Holdings is continuing its streak of acquisitions with a new deal to purchase a retail division of a laboratory in Florida.
LabCorp, headquartered in Burlington, has purchased a portion of Vista Clinical Diagnostics, an independent lab in Clermont, reported the Orlando Sentinel on Monday.
A spokesman for LabCorp confirmed the acquisition, telling the Triad Business Journal that it is a “tuck-in acquisition,” meaning it’s a smaller deal that involves a local or regional lab.
Such deals help LabCorp “expand our geographic coverage and connect more closely to patients and physicians in that area,” said spokesman Don Von Hagen.
LabCorp in recent years has actively sought acquisitions and partnerships as a way to expand its reach in both the U.S. and globally. The company has also entered the retail health space including partnering with Walgreens this year.
LabCorp announced two partnerships last week. The company said it would partner with MC10 Inc. to use the company’s wearable technology to collect health care data during clinical trails and research studies. LabCorp is also teaming up with Capital Health, a provider in Central New Jersey and Lower Bucks County, Pa., to provide laboratory tests.
