The Area 120 Team at Google rolled out an experimental app Keen, which is potentially a Pinterest rival that helps the users to curate topics based on their interests. Keen leverages Google’s highly efficient machine learning capabilities and is developed by the team at Google that works for the development of experimental apps and services.
Keen Helps Users Curate Content Like Pinterest
The new app is available on the Android platform from today and can be helpful for the users to curate their interests instead of mindlessly surfing the internet and online feeds.
Google Co-Founder Noted in a Blog Post
The Google Co-Founder, CJ Adams, talked about Keen in a blog post. He said,
Want to publish your own articles on DistilINFO Publications?
Send us an email, we will get in touch with you.
“On Keen, you say what you want to spend more time on, and then curate content from the web and people you trust to help make that happen.”
1. You Make a Keen Of Your Interest
He added “You make a ‘keen,’ which can be about any topic, whether it’s baking delicious bread at home, getting into birding, or researching typography. Keen lets you curate the content you love, share your collection with others, and find new content based on what you have saved.”
2. Keen Replicates Pinterest Features
Keen is trying to replicate the Pinterest feature of hobby-based curation with the help of the pinboard-style interface and customized social media feed, customized based on users’ interest. Most of the feeds on social media platforms are based on searches and content viewed or liked. Google is leveraging its machine learning to provide the two features more efficiently.
3.Curate Content and Save Interesting Pieces
Google’s new offering would help the users to get helpful content, which is as per the user’s interest. Per CJ Adams, even if the user is not very well versed with the topic, they can use Keen to curate content and then save interesting pieces as ‘gems.’
4. Content Bits Help in finding related content.
The content bits can then work as the seeds to help users discover more related content as they continue browsing over time.
5. Building an Interest-Based Social Network
The Pinterest style app is Google’s attempt to make its mark in the social network space as the tech giant has not been successful in making an impressive social network platform. An interest-based social network can help the company to gather information about users’ interests and collate data for advanced development. Powered by machine learning, Keen can help Google drive higher engagement within users by fostering their hobby interests just like Pinterest.
