After a controversial video uploaded on TikTok by one of the leading Indian TikTok influencers, millions of users in India uninstalled TikTok and gave it low ratings on Google Playstore. Faisal Siddiqui, an Indian influencer, posted an intimidating spoof video on acid attack on the video-sharing platform Tiktok, which was not taken in good taste by many Indian users.
Millions of negative TikTok reviews in Playstore deleted by Google
The protest took an overwhelming turn when millions of users gave one rating to the app on the Android marketplace, Google Playstore. The response was so massive that the ratings of the app fell from 4.5 to 1,2 stars overnight. However, Google later revoked all the negative reviews for TikTok from its play-storage platform, considering that the protesters had created several fake accounts to intensify the protest against the app.
5 Million 1-rating Reviews Deleted
Google deleted around 5 million negative reviews from Playstore; still, the app ratings remain as low as two on the Google play store, where users download the apps for Android OS.

Slur against acid attack spoof video
The objectionable video featured the TikToker Faisal Siddiqui waring a woman who is seemingly leaving him for another guy; he then spills a liquid on the girl’s face. Later the girl’s face is covered in symbolic makeup that looks like scars caused by acid. There was significant uproar in the Indian internet community about the controversial video, and the matter was even reported to the National Commission for Women.
TikTok responded to the controversy.
TikTok also took stock of the situation and reportedly banned the TikTok account. The official spokesperson from TikTok said that “As per the policy, we do not allow content that risks the safety of others, promotes physical harm, or glorifies violence against women.”
The video was taken down by TikTok
“The behavior in question violates our guidelines, and we have taken down content, suspended the account, and are working with law enforcement agencies as appropriate.”
Content creator apologized
The involved TikToker also apologized for the controversial video. He said, As a social media influencer, I realize my responsibility and apologize to anyone who was offended by the video.”
However, the damage was irreversible, and the massively popular app got backlash from Indian users. There was mass uninstalls, and users gave low ratings to the app. However, Google understood the pattern of mass abuse and deleted more than 5 million one-star ratings and reviews.
Google Spokesperson notified of the action. They said “When we learn of spam abuse incidents, we review and take corrective action to remove inappropriate ratings and comments.”
