European Union announced a new proposal to regulate technologies like artificial intelligence and data collection, as the use of these technologies poses a perpetual threat to user security. The project includes a ban on facial recognition technologies in public space. The data collection market will also streamline with a single channel throughout the European Union. The proposal may also call out for 22 Billion dollars investment in AI.

As per the reports, the latest tech regulations have been shared with the top Silicon Valley executives like Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg so that Brussels can lobby the European Union’s antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager.

The president of European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen has talked about the need to address the high risk of AI in the public domain. She also spoke about the way the application of AI can impact various sectors like transport, Health care, policing, and administration.

Sundar Pichai Expressed Support for the Regulation Last month
Sundar Pichai from the Alphabet Inc showed support for the EU plans during his speech in Brussels last month. He said there is no question in my mind that artificial intelligence needs to be regulated. He added that a proportionate approach, balancing potential harms with social opportunities.”
