The threatening Coronavirus outbreak is spreading massively across china and is now even reaching other countries as people travel overseas. Researchers across the world are trying to use Artificial Intelligence to apply it on Social media, internet, and other data points to derive the signs of the disease spreading in different parts of the world.
Artificial Intelligence is Helping Predict Coronavirus Outbreak
Coronavirus first noticed in December in Wuhan, China has triggered a health emergency worldwide wherein the intensity of the Virus is still not confirmed. However, the Virus is contagious, and how fast it can transmit is still unknown to the medical experts.
The death toll due to Coronavirus is on the rise, and more than thirty-one thousand people have reportedly been affected by Coronavirus till now. There have been more than 1000 deaths as per the figures released on Sunday.

Harvard Medical School is using Health Trends to Predict Outbreak
As per the chief Innovation officer at the Harvard Medical School John Brownstein, who is also a social media mining expert for health trends, the team is using the deep machine learning techniques to detect and gauge the extent of coronavirus outbreak. The team is looking through social media posts, data from the health channels, and doctors’ reports to analyses the health trends.
John Brownstein talks about the approach
“We are moving to surveillance efforts in the US,” Brownstein says. It is critical to determine where the Virus may surface if the authorities are to allocate resources and block its spread effectively. “We’re trying to understand what’s happening in the population at large,” Said John Brownstein.
Project Uses Health-Related Data on Social Media
The project is skimming through health-related posts on social media, which detail the specific symptoms to detect Coronavirus. The symptoms like breathing problems, fever, and other health issues related to Coronavirus in different geographical regions matter. The Natural Language Processing is also handling the text parsing posted by the people on Social Media to process information and find useful inferences.
Canadian AI startup also predicted the Outbreak a few months back
Blue dot reportedly used the same technology and informed the Chinese government of the emergency in December last year.
