The Russian government is now on a path to regulate the smartphones and even the content inside as it feels that the Smartphones sold in the country should have software that supports Russian Values.
The country will now have the gadgets and devices sold in its boundaries to have software that can promote the traditional Russian culture and values.
Smartphones In Russia should Promote Russian values
A few months back, the country banned the sale of the devices that did not have the preinstalled software that was made in Russia. The Government Official has now created the guidelines that showcase what kind of software should be in the smartphones.
The controversial guidelines seem to censor the content. The instructions are outlined for devices like Smartphones, Smart TVs, and computers. The Federal Anti-Monopoly Service drafts the guidelines as per the reports by the Reuters. The guidelines include the software which can be instrumental in the formation of the priority of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values”.

The guidelines, however, do not depict what kind of Russian Values should be promoted.
Law talks about Russian Software Pre-installed
Russia passed a law that talks about the ban on the sales of gadgets that do not have the pre-installed Russian software in it. The code is intended to promote the Russian technology and also help the people of the country when they purchase a gadget. The legislation comes in action in July 2020. The products from other countries can be sold in Russia; however, they should have an alternative to Russian software.
Statement by Co-Other of Law
As per a report by Oleg Nikolayev, Co-author of the Law,
“Naturally, when a person sees them… they might think that there are no domestic alternatives available”. He also added, “And if alongside preinstalled applications, we will also offer the Russian ones to users, then they will have a right to choose.”
Russian Association doesn’t Agree with the Stance
The distributors and manufacturers have not adopted the law, and even the Association of Trading Companies and Manufacturers of Household Electrical Equipment and Computers (RATEK) revealed that it is impossible to preinstall Russia-Made on some of the devices. He also said that some of the international players in the market like Apple might discontinue selling their products in Russia.
