Former HBO CEO Richard Plepler is going to produce movies, TV shows and documentaries for Apple’s upcoming streaming video service, Apple TV+. His New York based company, ‘The Eden Productions’, has signed an exclusive five-year deal with Apple.
Richard Plepler turned HBO into a great destination for prestige content such as “Game of Thrones”. This will be creating shows for a streaming service that directly competes with his previous employer.
Richard Plepler praised all the heads of Apple TV+ video programming, former Sony television executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg.
The reason why the former HBO boss entered into a 5 year deal with Apple
Plepler’s produced shows will be available to stream on Apple TV+. Apple TV+ was launched last fall and costs $4.99 per month. A free year’s subscription is bundled with new Apple gadgets. Apple is already spending billions on content for the service.

Apple and AT&T are going to join an increasingly competitive market. Netflix and Hulu, Disney successfully launched a service last fall. NBC Universal is planning its own service later this year.
Partnership with Apple signifies a new era for Hollywood brass. Tech companies with huge pockets are starting to become attractive partners for content creation and distribution.
Talking on the partnership, Plepler said,
“I’m excited to work with Zack, Jamie and the standout team at Apple who have been deeply supportive of my vision for Eden from day one. The shows that Zack and Jamie produced, ‘The Crown’ and ‘Breaking Bad,’ are among those I most admired. Apple is one of the most creative companies in the world, and the perfect home for my new production company and next chapter.”
Apple hasn’t disclosed the number of subscribers or views on its service yet. It is built around the original series that is including “The Morning Show,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, and “See,” starring Jason Momoa.
