Loon, the sister company of tech giant Google, is planning to bring internet service to the remote areas of Amazon with its solar-powered air balloon internet services. The balloons will offer internet connectivity to the users in the Amazon region. The floating balloons will be controlled using Artificial Intelligence.
Loon to Connect Amazon regions with Internet Using Solar Powered Air Balloons
Earlier, the company had started providing internet connectivity to forests in Kenya and Africa. Owned by Google Parent company Alphabet, Loon has announced that it is in the process of bringing internet to the remote areas of Peru that houses more than 200,000 people.
The Contract between the IpT (Internet Para Todos Peru) and Loon is made to provide infrastructure for the same. IpT is the open-access infrastructure operator in the amazon regions and helps connect the remote areas in the Amazon rainforests. The ability to provide internet connectivity to remote and far off regions of Africa and Amazon can strike a great business prospect for the company.

More than one-fourth of the people living in the Amazon rainforest region do not have access to the internet, and the IpT wants that the 6 Million Peru Citizens residing in the area should have access to the internet by the year 2021. As per a study, every person connected to the internet is a prospective buyer.
The deal between Loon and IpT does open a lot of avenues for better business for both companies. Loon is though not making its first attempt to provide internet services in the region.
Loon, to provide internet connectivity to disaster-prone remote areas
Earlier, a research lab called Project Loon had attempted to offer internet services in the areas affected by natural disasters. The live field test of the Loon was done in the Lima, Peru where flood devastated the areas in May 2017. The company provided post-disaster cellphone services in around an area of 25,000 square miles. The Loon Balloons were deployed in Nov 2017 in Hurricane Maria damaged regions of Puerto Rico as well.
Loon uses the Solar Powered balloons
Loon works by using balloons which are like the traditional weather balloons that float around 60000 feet above the sea level and provide coverage of about 25 Miles radii. The Balloons offer 4G internet with wireless connectivity and controlled by Artificial Intelligence.
Loon, however, needs to strike an agreement with the regional telecom provider to help provide the network services to the customers like regular services from the general masts. Loon plans to set up the internet Providing balloons in Peru that offer 4G/LTE internet connectivity from 2020.
The Google company needs to have regulatory approval from the Peru Governments Ministry of Transport and Communications as well to roll out the service.
