If you feared of losing your job to AI one day, it’s time to put aside those apprehensions. Despite several projections that artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning will lead to massive layoffs, the future is not quite so dire, as showcased by ZipRecruiter’s The Future of Work Report, released few days back.
In 2018, AI created about three times as many jobs as it destroyed, the report found, in a variety of industries beyond the tech sector. Let’s take a look at them.
AI in manufacturing
It was being estimated that by 2030 robots will take over about 20 million jobs. But surprisingly, jobs in the manufacturing sector grew to 84%, outpacing growth in professional services, insurance, finance, and business.
An increase in the demand for the products made by America and due to the broadening gap in the industry may lead to a labor shortage in manufacturing as stated by Deloitte report. There is an increasing demand for workers with AI skills, which rose to 379% from 2016 to 2018. This demand is for the people who can work efficiently with the new, AI tools. These trends suggest that the disruption of AI in the job market will not lead to the polarization of income further.
AI in agriculture
Precision farming in agriculture is the new job category that uses AI, for eg. GPS, Smart machinery, drones for collecting a very specific data on fertilizers, moisture levels, soil composition for maximizing the yield. With the drone technology 14% lift in demand has been observed. To date, Artificial intelligence has not caused much disruption to the labor market but Taffrail is required to support the job market and future workforce.
Applications of AI
The most successful application of AI is when the technology is used in partnership rather than the replacement of humans. Employers believe that they would prefer to hire human employee instead of a fully autonomous system, but no doubt AI would replace 15% of work performed by humans. AI will create opportunities that will be safer and enjoyable where humans and technology will work for hand in hand.
