The Redmond giant needs cameras to boost Windows Hello.
Microsoft is looking to get Windows Hello to as many Windows 10 devices as possible, and to do that – it needs brand new 4K cameras. One thing leads to another, and now the media are reporting that Microsoft might start selling these devices next year.
It all started with Paul Thurott, who first reported that Microsoft is in fact making 4K cameras for Windows 10 PCs and the Xbox One console. This would bring Windows Hello, its facial recognition system, to devices other than those in the Surface lineup.
It was also hinted that a Kinect-like feature could make a return to the Xbox One.

The device will probably come with a USB-C connection. This news is linked to the Surface Hub 2, a device planned for next year, which features a USB-C port and is supposed to come with a new camera.
Another hint, according to ZDNet, came last October, when Surface boss Panos Panay told The Verge the Surface camera may be coming.
“Look at the camera on Surface Hub 2, note it’s a USB-C-based camera, and the idea that we can bring a high fidelity camera to an experience, you can probably guess that’s going to happen,” said Panay.
We don’t know any exact dates yet, but we do know that Microsoft is pushing strongly towards a password free future, spearheaded by Windows Hello. The Windows 10 October 2018 Update, together with the WebAuthn authentication, is clearing the road ahead for Office 365 and other Microsoft services to start using Windows Hello.
