Multiple Amazon customers have reported receiving messages about purchases from their baby registries Tuesday even if they aren’t pregnant.
An Amazon spokesperson told Money the messages had come from the company and were due to a technical glitch, and that affected customers are in the process of getting notified. ” We apologize for any confusion this may have caused,” the spokesperson said. The spokesperson did not respond to requests about the number of customers who were impacted.
The organization explains on its website that fake e-mails can include “links to websites that look like Amazon.com, but aren’t Amazon, attachments or prompts to install software on your computer, typos or grammatical errors [and] forged e-mail addresses to make it look like the e-mail is coming from Amazon.com.”
Reports of puzzled customers receiving e-mails about baby purchases began permeating social media sites Tuesday afternoon.
