How much do you love your job?
Every year, job search platform Glassdoor wants to know. On Tuesday, the site published its Employees’ Choice Awards, which highlight the best places to work based on more than 2.1 million anonymous company reviews.
For yet another year, tech companies boast a heavy presence, taking up 20 of the 50 spots for best companies to work for in the US.
Coming in No. 2 overall, behind management consulting firm Bain & Company, is Facebook, followed by Google at No. 4 and World Wide Technology at No. 5. Other recognizable Silicon Valley giants include Salesforce, SAP, LinkedIn and Adobe.

There’s a reason these companies show up on the list en force. The industry has had to up its game over the years because the competition to attract the best tech talent is tough, said Glassdoor’s community expert Scott Dobroski.
“While there is a war for talent as we know that’s very fierce in may industries, it is especially fierce in technology,” he said.
The White House estimates there are about a half million open jobs in information and technology, and that number will double within the next four years. There just aren’t enough people with skills out there, at a time when just about every industry has need for tech workers.
That competition is why you hear accounts of unconventional benefits, like free food, massages, nap pods, onsite yoga classes or even shuttles to work– things employees a generation ago never would have imagined. In 2014, Twitter bought two 19th century log cabins for its San Francisco office. On the more serious end, Facebook extended its family leave to four months last year. In March, Etsy said it would offer 6 months. That’s significant because the US is only industrialized nation in the world that doesn’t guarantee workers receive paid family leave.
Tech is having an effect on the rest of the business world by reshaping the definition of a good work environment.
“We see other industries introducing longer paternity and maternity leaves and more flexible working schedules, and they’re borrowing that from the technology playbook,” Dobroski said.
The list can also give other insights. Twitter, for example, was the top tech company to work for in 2014, and No. 2 overall, but has since fallen off the list completely, which may not be surprising given events like the recent speculation over a sale of the company.
“Internal and external events impact employee satisfaction,” Dobroski said.
