Software maker Zendesk has hired former Gap chief information officer Tom Keiser as its first CIO, the company said this week, as it attempts to bring its product to a wider global audience.
Zendesk also hired Bryan Cox, former senior vice president of global customer operations at VMware , to become chief revenue officer. The company said in a statement that they hoped both hires would help it reach a revenue goal of $1 billion in 2020.
“Bryan and Tom are proven leaders whose combined dedication and vision will help define the next chapter for Zendesk,” said Mikkel Svane, Zendesk chairman, founder and CEO. “We’re focused on helping organizations build better customer relationships at a time of major shifts in technology, business models and consumer behavior.”
Zendesk operates in 150 countries, with offices in South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and domestically serving around 75,000 customers, the company said. Zendesk will use Keiser’s experience with enterprise scalability to broaden its depth and reach of that department, he said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.

“Zendesk is quickly growing into a multi-product company that serves all size businesses including large enterprises,” Keiser told the paper’s CIO Journal.“Part of my role as CIO will be to assist our product and sales teams with large enterprise customers.”
Zendesk saw revenue leap more than 60 percent for the first quarter of this year, up to $68.5 million, but recorded a net loss of $27.2 million based on “share-related” issues, the company. Keiser had been with The Gap Inc. since 2010.
