Cognizant to provide management platform.
Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., an information technology outsourcing firm in Teaneck, said Wednesday it entered into a three-year agreement with discount retailer Family Dollar. Financial terms were not disclosed.
As part of the agreement, Family Dollar will license and deploy Cognizant’s cloud management platform Cloud360 in an effort to help the retailer improve business responsiveness and drive growth at its stores. The Matthews, N.C.-based retail chain has more than 8,000 stores in 46 states.
Cloud360 is one of Cognizant’s BusinessCloud products, which is a segment of business and IT solutions. The platform provides on-demand service and a management console for monitoring and analyzing cloud operations. The platform was developed on Amazon Web Services.

Cognizant was unable to respond to a request for comment to clarify further details of the agreement.
The accord comes one month after Family Dollar shareholders approved a $8.74 billion takeover offer from Dollar Tree as companies scramble to be the leader in the hotly contested discount store space.
Together, the merged chains will operate as many as 13,000 stores.
Cognizant and Family Dollar began a working relationship in 2006. Since then, Cognizant has partnered with Family Dollar to help manage technology and business programs for store, supply chain, merchandizing and back office operations.
“We are constantly looking for opportunities to strengthen our value proposition and improve our performance,” said Vikas Wali, the divisional vice president of IT application and infrastructure services at Family Dollar, in a statement. “This engagement is crucial to our efforts to execute better on our promise of being an efficient, low-cost retailer.”
Family Dollar, unlike traditional dollar stores that sell items at a fixed price, sells products at multiple prices. The business focuses on serving low- to middle-income customers.
Cognizant provides clients with information technology, consulting and business process outsourcing services.
