Success for any organization that wants to achieve HITRUST certification starts with a simple first step – ensure all key business and technology stakeholders are HITRUST literate. Individuals responsible for leading, supporting, and approving HITRUST and associated, impacted business priorities, must have a common baseline of HITRUST knowledge.
Management must understand that this is a commitment that will impact, for the better, business processes. A HITRUST initiative is not a technology initiative. It is a business initiative. HITRUST will lead to better and more appropriate policies and procedures. HITRUST is a prescriptive standard and will require evidences aligned with policies and procedures.
An organization that does not have a consistent understanding of the HITRUST standard will struggle to successfully achieve certification.
So start slow. Keep the focus on ensuring that a foundation of knowledge has been established. A HITRUST literate organization will be efficient and effective in establishing a credible cybersecurity program.
