1,000 Jan Aushadhi Outlets By 2024: Minister

Union minister of state for health and family welfare Ashwini Kumar Choubey said here on Sunday that the number of PM Jan Aushadhi outlets in the state to provide medicines to the poor and lower middle class citizens at low prices would be increased to 1,000 by 2024.

Choubey said at present the state has only 66 such outlets. He hoped that the state government would accelerate the process of setting up more outlets in the government hospitals to derive benefits of the central government’s scheme.

The minister said altogether 6,200 Jan Aushadhi outlets were operational across the country. The number would be increased to 10,000 by the end of 2024. He pointed out that 1.25 crore people across the country were purchasing medicines from Jan Aushadhi outlets, which provided 900 kinds of medicines and 174 kinds of surgical items.

“The health ministry is planning to increase the number of medicines from 900 to 2000 and surgical items from 174 to 300 by the end of 2024,” Choubey said, adding that around 5.5 crore people belonging to economically backward and lower middle class were in debt due to high expenses on medicines and medicare in the country.

He said sanitary pads were being sold at Rs1 each at all Jan Aushadhi outlets. “PM Narendra Modi has kept the promise made,” he added.

Referring to Ramayan circuit, the BJP MP from Buxar said the Ramayan Express carrying around 350 people would reach Buxar on March 13. The travellers would get acquainted with the Rameshwaram temple at Ram Chaura Ghat in Buxar before departing for Sitamarhi and Janakpur (Nepal).
