Deadly Explosion Claims Five Lives
A devastating blast at MMP Aluminium Industries in Umred MIDC, Nagpur district, Maharashtra, has resulted in the deaths of five workers. The explosion, which occurred on April 11, claimed the lives of young workers aged between 20 and 25 years, all residents of Nagpur district. Two additional workers suffered approximately 80% burn injuries and remain in critical condition. These severely injured victims were transferred from the Government Medical College and Hospital to a private facility on Saturday to receive specialized care.
Official Investigation Reveals Negligence
According to a comprehensive report from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), significant safety lapses were identified at the aluminium products manufacturing facility. The investigation determined that the factory management failed to provide essential Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to workers, directly putting their lives at risk. Officials from Umred police station confirmed these findings, highlighting a pattern of negligence that contributed to the tragic incident.
Training Deficiencies Exposed
The DISH report specifically noted that two recently hired workers were not provided with any safety training before being assigned to work at the hazardous site. This critical oversight demonstrates a severe lack of proper onboarding procedures and safety protocols within the company’s operations. Industry experts emphasize that proper training is fundamental to preventing workplace accidents in manufacturing environments.
Legal Action Initiated Against Company Officials
Following the investigation’s findings, police registered a case against three company officials on Sunday. Two managers and the safety in-charge now face charges under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 106(1) for causing death by negligence, section 287 for negligent conduct regarding fire or combustible matter, and section 125(B) for endangering life or personal safety of others due to negligence or recklessness. While no arrests have been made yet, authorities confirm that the investigation continues.
