Buried in Mountain View, Calif.-based health care information technology company Omnicell’s recent Q4 and fiscal year results report was a little local news: The company will shutter its Nashville office in a consolidation move.
“2016 was a successful year for Omnicell with record bookings, revenues and earnings,” Randall Lipps, Omnicell president, CEO and chairman, said in the earnings report. “We are proud of the company’s financial performance and our strategic execution aimed at supporting health systems in achieving their patient safety, operational and financial goals.”
But despite the optimism in the company’s report, about 35 full-time employees will lose their jobs in Nashville in the coming weeks, an Omnicell spokesperson said Thursday. Many of those will have the opportunity to move to an Omnicell office in Pittsburgh or seek assistance from the company in looking for other work in the Nashville area.
“It’s a difficult decision any time you have to lose people or help them find new positions,” Omnicell spokesperson Betsy Davis said. “In this case, this is a business decision to consolidate our offices. We’ve had substantial growth and with that growth comes some decisions that need to be made.”

The company, which manufactures and sells automated systems for medication and supply management for hospitals, announced it was opening a Nashville outpost in 2010. Operations in the Nashville office included the company’s pharmacy management system, which provides customers with inventory and usage data. Those operations will now be based in Pittsburgh.
The company is reducing its workforce by 100 employees, including the 35 in Nashville, representing about 4 percent of its total workforce.
