CLEVELAND — Cleveland Clinic announces the president of the new Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital, which broke ground in October.
Dr. Rebecca Starck will be leading the planning and strategic direction of the new Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital.
Designed as a “hospital of the future,” the new facility is currently being built onto the north side of the existing Richard E. Jacobs Health Center.
The five-story, 221,500-square-foot addition is estimated at $143 million and is scheduled to open in 2016.

“As an established physician practicing in the Avon community since 2005, Dr. Starck has played a pivotal role in bringing this new hospital vision to life,” said Brian G. Donley, M. D., current Cleveland Clinic President of Regional Hospitals and Family Health Centers and incoming Chief of Staff.
The new Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital will have 126 private rooms to take care of patients who are more likely to be discharged within just a few days, rather than a week or longer.
Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital will become the health system’s ninth community hospital in Northeast Ohio joining Euclid, Fairview, Hillcrest, Lakewood, Lutheran, Marymount, Medina and South Pointe hospitals.
“I am honored by this opportunity to help lead a new hospital specially designed for the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Starck. “We remain committed to building on the success of our Richard E. Jacobs Health Center and meeting the growing needs of our Avon and Lorain communities, and are excited to introduce additional specialty services and an even higher quality of care for patients close to home.”
Earlier this year, Dr. Starck was named an associate medical director on Cleveland Clinic’s Regional Administrative Team, charged with further integrating the community hospitals, family health centers and institutes on issues regarding medical operations. She has served as chair of the Clinic’s Regional Ob/Gyn department since 2010, managing more than 80 obstetricians and gynecologists throughout Northeast Ohio.
Dr. Starck began practicing at Fairview Hospital in 1999. She also is a clinical professor of surgery in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. Dr. Starck practices routine obstetrics and specializes in menopause management, general women’s health and alternatives to hysterectomy.
