Three Dallas-Fort Worth healthcare executives have been named to Modern Healthcare‘s annual “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” list, the publication announced recently.
Trevor Fetter, president and CEO of Tenet Healthcare (#18), Joel Allison, president and CEO of Baylor Health Care System (#19), and Douglas Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources (#63) all made the list, which also included President Barack Obama, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid head Marilyn Tavenner. Fetter has been included on the list every year of its existence (for a total of 12 times), while Allison and Hawthorne have been named nine times and eight times, respectively.
“I see this more as a recognition of the innovative, leading work Baylor is doing rather than as a personal recognition,” Allison said in an email. “We at Baylor decided years ago, at the start of the national healthcare reform discussion, that we would not wait for changes to come out of Washington. We held true to that promise by creating real health care reform strategies here in North Texas for the rest of the country to follow. And this is just the start.”
Dan Wolterman, president and CEO of Houston’s Memorial Hermann Health System, was the only other Texas executive on the list. Modern Healthcare received nearly 28,000 submissions, and the top 300 candidates, based on those nominations, made up the final ballot. Readers then voted for their top five candidates; more than 238,000 ballots were submitted. Readers’ votes counted toward 50 percent of the outcome, while editors at Modern Healthcare accounted for the other 50 percent.
