HCA Holdings’ top technology executive has told the company she will step down from her position in May.
Noel Williams, who in addition to being chief information officer is also president of HCA Information Technology & Services, on Monday told her colleagues of her plans to leave the company she first joined in 1979. (The news was first reported by Venture Nashville.) Williams, 56, then spent 14 years at the company before taking short stints as an independent consultant and as CIO of America Service Group. She returned to the hospital giant as CIO in the fall of 1997.
HCA spokesman Ed Fishbough said the company has not yet decided on a successor to Williams, whose team now comprises more than 3,600 people, including about 1,400 in the Nashville area.
Chairman and CEO Richard Bracken called Williams a “longtime friend and colleague” and pointed out that HCA’s IT department, which also works with about 80 external clients, has been recognized by several trade publications in recent years.

“She was instrumental in shaping our Information Technology and Services into one of the largest, most complex and most successful providers of IT services in the country,” Bracken said. “We appreciate Noel’s many contributions, which have helped position HCA for continued success, and we wish her the best in this next exciting phase of her life.”
