James Weinstein opens up sharing ideas about redesigning healthcare!
James Weinstein said,
“I think the country is missing an opportunity’. He further added, ‘The current president talks about rebuilding infrastructure of United States of America and it is an interesting thought. But if we had to redesign healthcare today with a whiteboard, it would not look anything like it looks now.”
Bringing transparency in cost and outcome!
Dr. Weinstein said that many patients lack the basic information regarding procedure prices, what is the surgeon’s track record, etc. So he emphasized on bringing greater transparency so that it would in turn catalyze greater efficiency and also standardization from physicians.
Focusing on the top 5% of healthcare utilizers!
Dr. Weinstein said,
‘Let’s take care of those chronic conditions for the population, which is aging and is responsible for 50% of costs’. He further added, ‘Medicare is a national program and if you spend more money in Texas, that means less money has to be spend somewhere else’.
Continue with value-based payments!
Dr. Weinstein argued for maintaining or proliferating of value based payments, along with increased programs, which takes socioeconomic factors into consideration. He said, ‘Social issues account for most of the problems in this country, and we tend to avoid them’.
Further he spoked about revising or eliminating the Social Security max tax. He then putted an idea requiring those persons, who make more than $100,000 on an annual basis to contribute more towards health insurance. At last he spoke about partnering with industry and even consumer groups for data analytics, artificial intelligence and predictive modelling.
