Humana Inc. is laying off about 500 people in Florida and Ohio.
Cincinnati.com reports that the workers are in the Louisville-based company’s home health care unit.
Workers were notified Feb. 1, according to the report, and the layoffs are effective April 3. The workers will get severance and job-placement assistance, and some could be eligible for other jobs at Humana.
Most of the workers are in Florida, according to the report, with 88 of them in Ohio.
The Humana At Home division employs nurses, nurse practitioners, support staff and administrators.
A Humana spokeswoman told Cincinnati.com that the layoffs are not related to the company’s proposed merger with Aetna Inc., which was rejected by a federal judge on Jan. 23.
