Being on Obamacare in Alabama just got a little more difficult. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama announced CVS Pharmacy is no longer in its network for individual and small business plans.
A spokeswoman for BCBS said 390,000 people are affected by the change. That’s roughly 13% of its members.
“This change was made to help offset the continuous rise in prescription drug costs and provide our customers the best medications for the best price,” Vice President of Corporation Communications and Community Relations Koko Mackin said.
Blue Cross Blue Shield is the only option in the Affordable Care Act marketplace in Alabama. Other providers dropped out, citing expense.
Important to note- Medicare members who have Blue Advantage, Blue Rx or C Plus Coverage are not affected by this decision.
According to BCBS, CVS may still be available to certain large employer plans. You can located participating pharmacies here.
