Amy Dowd, CEO of New Mexico’s Health Insurance Exchange, also known as beWellnm, is leaving the position in September to work with Molina Healthcare as the associate vice president of marketplace operations.
“She will be working with the board to establish a transition plan,” said Tom Garrity, spokesperson for NMHIX. “This is a fluid process.”
Garrity says Dowd has committed to stay on with the exchange until at least Sept. 16, which is the next NMHIX board meeting.
Lisa Rubino, senior vice president of duals and exchange at Molina Healthcare says Dowd will start in her new position at the company in late September. Her job will be to focus on marketplace enrollment and billing for Molina Healthcare. Molina is a health insurance provider, and it also runs health clinics and provides health management solutions.
“We are excited to have her on the Molina Healthcare team,” Rubino said. “Her respected track record throughout her extensive career will be instrumental in our continued marketplace growth.”
Garrity says, while it’s too early to tell exactly how this change will play out for NMHIX, the organization is going strong.
“Amy has really established a strong team and a great culture,” he said. “She leaves the organization in a very good place.”
Dowd took over as CEO of NMHIX in 2014, replacing interim CEO Mike Nunez where she made $199,000 a year. Before she came to the state, she ran the health exchange in Idaho.
