Aetna and Geisinger Health System have signed a five-year contract that provides Aetna members with in-network access to all Geisinger facilities in Pennsylvania.
According to a media release, the contract is the first direct, systemwide agreement between Aetna and Geisinger.
Under the agreement, Geisinger also renewed its existing contract with Coventry, which was acquired by Aetna in 2013.
“Aetna is very excited to have reached this agreement with Geisinger, which is renowned for its innovative approaches to health care,” said Laurie Brubaker, president of Aetna’s Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia operations. “We’ve worked hard to build strong relationships with leading health systems like Geisinger, and this agreement is an important validation of those efforts.”
“We are pleased to finalize this agreement so people with Aetna and Coventryinsurance coverage can receive in-network healthcare services throughoutGeisinger Health System,” said David Friel, vice president, third party contracting for Geisinger.
Geisinger Health System is an integrated health services organization.
