Cargill Inc. will cut 169 jobs starting next month as it outsources information technology services to an India-based firm.
Wayzata-based Cargill announced the move in March, saying it could eliminate up to 900 positions.
The affected employees work in Cargill’s global IT infrastructure unit in Hopkins, senior employment lawyer Tracy Wessel Johnson wrote in a July 2 letter to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
“Employees slated for a reduction in force will not be able to displace (bump) other employees to maintain their employment,” she wrote, though she said 45 of the laid-off workers took jobs with the outsourcing firm, Tata Consultancy Services.
DEED released the mass layoff notification letter after a request by the Business Journal Friday.
The layoffs start in September and are scheduled to continue through May 2015.
Senior IT analysts are taking the biggest hit, with 65 losing their jobs, followed by 30 IT analysts and 22 IT consultants. Managers, supervisors and senior positions make up the bulk of the rest.
A Cargill spokesman did not have more information at the ready Friday afternoon.
