Fiona Floyd, Suncorp Life’s chief information officer, has departed from her role with the company, as it embarks on an internal restructure.
Floyd’s departure, which was first reported by Financial Services Technology Media, comes after for over four years with the company. Prior to that role, she was Group IT manager of Business Applications at Leighton Contractors.
While in her role at Suncorp Life, Floyd also worked as a mentor for Females in IT and Telecommunications, a not-for-profit network aimed at inspiring women to achieve their career aspirations and potential at all levels and disciplines within the IT sector.
A spokesperson for Suncorp Group said that the company has been focusing on reworking roles and responsibilities since former company CIO, Matt Pancino, was appointed as Suncorp Business Services chief executive in June, but did not rule out Floyd’s departure as being part of the restructure.
Pancino’s appointment followed the departure of Jeff Smith from the CEO role in Suncorp Business Services after he accepted a senior executive role with IBM in the United States.
This year, the company launched its ‘Business Intelligence’ program, aimed at bringing together a team of 850 data analysts, modellers, and technology specialists from across the business into a shared services function, called Suncorp Business Services, which had been headed up by Pancino prior to taking on his role as Business Services CEO.
“We’re using technology and a culture to mine the wealth of data at the centre of the Group’s operations,” Suncorp Group CEO, Patrick Snowball, told investors in May. “It’s enhancing business decision making, improving our response to market dynamics and enabling delivery of new and innovative banking, insurance and life products and services.”
Meanwhile, technology outsourcing had been on the cards for Smith. Prior to leaving the company for his new role with IBM in the US, Smith said that making use of outsourced technology services was essential in driving efficiency and productivity within a company like Suncorp Group.
“No company can efficiently and productively carry the expertise it needs inhouse. You’re only as good as the company you keep and we’ve chosen leading partners to improve all facets of our business and help us manage the risks,” he said in May, in the company’s investor day report.
“That particularly applies with the Group’s move to cloud technology where a range of world-leading providers are helping us change the way Suncorp builds and deploys applications. Cloud is lowering hardware costs and reducing risk by spreading workloads and building more resilient, scalable applications,” he said.
The spokesperson confirmed that the company had started the recruitment process to replace Floyd in the Suncorp Life CIO role.
